Injuries are the second leading cause of hospitalization and the leading cause of emergency room visits among children under age 19.

Each year, approximately 1,800 children ages 19 and under are killed as occupants in motor vehicles, and more than 280,000 are injured.

910 children have died due to pediatric vehicular heatstroke since 1998. Data from www.noheatstroke.org.

500 children ages 19 and under are seen in emergency rooms for heat exhaustion in cars each year, based on annualized estimates from 2008 to 2010.

Heatstroke is the number one cause of non‐crash, vehicle‐related death in children ages 19 and under.Car Seat Installation

The annual cost of child injury deaths in the United States is an estimated $34.5 billion (US dollars).

A correctly installed and used child safety seat reduces the risk of death by 71% for infants.  However, it is estimated that the majority (approx. 82%) of children who are placed in child safety seats are improperly restrained.
